Brett Watson is the son of Mary and Jerry Watson and brother to Jeff Watson. He graduated from Kansas University in 2001 with degrees in Film, English, American Studies, and Political Science. He received his MA in Political Science from American University in 2004, his JD from Kansas University in 2005, and a LLM degree in Environmental Law from Lewis and Clark School of Law in 2014. From 2005 to 2007 he was a clerk with the Kansas Court of Appeals and thereafter he worked for the Kansas Criminal Code Recodification Commission which revised the criminal laws for Kansas in 2010. He worked as a prosecutor in the Ford and Finney County Attorney Offices. In 2013, he began work as a prosecutor in the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office and in 2021 he became the Chief Deputy District Attorney. In July 2022, he was appointed by Governor Kelly to be a District Court Judge.
