[ARCHIVED] Network Security Incident

October 16, 2023

Dear Counsel and Self Represented Litigants in Shawnee County District Court,

Due to a recent cyber security incident affecting Kansas courts, Shawnee County District Court will likely be operating on a paper filing basis until at least October 27, 2023. As a result of this incident, Judges do not have the ability to access the electronic record on most cases and may not have access to their court calendar. Consequently, unless notified differently by the Clerk of the Court or the judge presiding over your case, you must do the following:

1. Appear for hearings as scheduled.

2. Bring copies of filed pleadings and proposed orders to your hearing.

3. If you have current motions, petitions or other requests pending with the court, provide a chamber's copy of the motion to the judge presiding over your case. All new case filings must also follow this process.

4. For new filings, you will also be responsible for attaching correct and accurate certificates of service and otherwise following the proper procedures for filing as existed prior to the electronic file system.

5. If you submitted proposed orders electronically last week and did not receive notification that they have been signed, then resubmit the pending proposed order and any previously filed motion or other document supporting the proposed order directly to chambers for review, signature, and hand filing. Signed orders will be provided to parties and/or counsel. The assigned judge will notify parties and/or counsel if the order is rejected.
